Subject: ODG: Killam Fellowship

Dear Colleagues:

Congratulations go out to Lionel Smith who has just won a prestigious Killam Fellowship which grants scholars teaching and administrative release so they may pursue independent research. The selected projects are chosen by the national Killam Selection Committee, comprised of 15 eminent scientists and scholars representing a broad range of disciplines..

Here is his short bio/project description as released by the Canadian Council for the Arts:

Lionel Smith is the Director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law and a leading voice in the current debates on fiduciary obligations. His project, Conflicts of Interest and Fiduciary Obligations, will advance the collective understanding of the law in this area. This field has expanded at a rapid pace, both in private law and in relation to holders of public office, leading to difficulties and confusion that can hamper the decisions that judges, legislators and policy-makers need to make. Lionel Smith will develop a rational legal framework that can guide those of all legal traditions through the complex challenges of conflicts of interest.

Sincerely,
--
